We've had an awesome start to the year with our group sessions!!! Hard to believe we're already half way through the year. Our AUGUST class is almost fully booked, if you miss out this month the next one will be on SEPTEMBER 25th, book now to secure your space!

Please see our other dates for group sessions or contact us to arrange an in home session - Thanks everyone, Sharyn.

No hassle of getting a group together, no cleaning up before and after the class, and a chance to get out of the house! In order to be central for the region, we’ve chosen 'The Place' at Charlestown Square. It is an interactive session that goes for 3 hours to allow time for questions and ensuring you feel confident and empowered when we're done!

What will be covered?

This is an interactive 3 hour session that covers:

Essential content: (all sessions cover these topics as a priority)

  • Child safety and prevention of injuries
  • Baby and small child CPR (0-8yrs) (practical component) - DRSABCD
  • Choking (practical component)
  • Drowning and water safety

Desirable content: (all sessions aim to cover these topics)

  • Allergic reactions
  • Burns
  • Button battery safety
  • Fevers
  • Seizures
  • Head injuries

Additional content: (as time allows)

  • Limb injuries
  • Spider and snake bites

Our sessions are highly interactive and we encourage lots and lots of questions!

Who will teach you?

This session will be facilitated by Sharyn who has sixteen years experience as a registered nurse, six years of that focused in the area of paediatric nursing. Sharyn has experience in paediatrics having worked in the Children’s Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Department at Sydney Children’s Hospital. Sharyn has also worked on the medical and surgical wards at the John Hunter Children’s Hospital, and is now a Practice nurse at a local General Practice. Sharyn also has two gorgeous little girls of her own!

Can children attend?

  • Babies and slow-moving walkers are more than welcome!
  • Older toddlers may be difficult to keep entertained throughout the session and distract you from learning all that you want. However, if you still want to bring them along that is fine! There is a playground within the shopping centre. We suggest arriving early so they can burn off some energy before coming inside. Please bring toys, movies on tablet devices and snacks for toddlers if they come along.
  • If you choose to have your baby cared for so you can concentrate for the session, that's fine too.
  • If you are pregnant and waiting for baby to arrive, perfect!

For those bringing a baby along, there is plenty of space for strollers, play mats etc.

How is this different to a session at home?

We cover everything we would teach during an in home session. The public events were created to help more people come along and learn. Having a public venue means no cleaning up for friends before or after they leave! This also allows those without a large group to book individually and attend a session.

Can we bring food and drinks along?

Yes! Please bring any food or drinks along with you to the session. For the safety of any mobile babies attending the class, we will not be providing any hot drinks throughout the class. Please feel free to bring one along with you from the many coffee places around the centre.

Please bring your parking ticket in with you. The lovely staff at The Place will validate your ticket so you will not need to pay for parking.
